Even long memories fade, but murder never dies.
How much colder could a case get? Twenty-six years ago a murder and a suicide, with a conviction twenty-five years ago.
Now the convicted murderer is out on parole . . . and the answers from all those years could be shaky.
Elizabeth Margaret “E.M.” Danniher was among TV journalism's elite before divorcing her network exec husband ended not only her marriage but her career, and she was banished to tiny KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming, to finish out her contract. Now she's exploring what comes next — in her career, her life, and her relationships. Oh, yes, also where she and her dog Shadow will live.
But who has time for considering little matters involving the rest of her life when she and her crime-solving partners get the knock on the door from murder.
Elizabeth, and handsome KWMT colleague Mike Paycik, rugged rancher Thomas Burrell, and her colorful cast of collaborators, plunge into mysteries from the past that threaten the present. To succeed, they must untangle characters and plotlines from a long-hidden Back Story.
What readers are saying about BACK STORY:
“It’s always important to know the ‘back story.’ I love this series! Great characters, twisty plots, satisfying endings. If you haven't read these yet, what are you waiting for? Enjoy!”-5*
“Such fun! How can a murder mystery be fun, one might ask? Have it written by Patricia McLinn , I would answer. The story and characters are so well written that the reading itself is a joy. Then McLinn adds in her unique take on Elizabeth's investigative abilities sprinkled with good humor. A very satisfying read.”-5*
“So many different twists and turns to hold your interest.”-5*
“I have enjoyed all of the books in this series — smart and witty and funny, a hint of romance . . . The heroine is independent and fun, a woman for now.”-5*
“Elizabeth, our lead, is a great character. She is strong, independent, intelligent, and funny. There is also a vulnerability to her that makes her even more likable. The author has surrounded her with a wonderful group of secondary characters. They’re people you would like to have as friends.”-5*
“Awesome read!! . . . You are always on your toes until the very end.”-5*
“Excellent x 3. These books are so good I limit myself to a few chapters at a time. Back Story is no exception.”-5*
“The only thing I don’t like is waiting for the next book to release!”-5*

Hooked from the start of book one, I loved the characters, storyline, sassy conversations, the lot. Read all six in record time and now I’m lost again. Only hope book 7 is due out soon, but because I like McLinn’s style so much, I intend to read her other books. Couldn’t recommend this series enough.”-5*

I enjoy the insight to the world of journalism, and hope that real life journalists have the same integrity as this main character.
Excellent story! Elizabeth and the gang are at it again. Elizabeth is solving a problem for Deputy Shelton and the gang is solving a murder of the past which ties into a murder of the present. Lots of action with plenty of twists but the clues are there as the story progresses. Jennifer will help from a distance because she is celebrating Christmas with the family but not where the gang is.
I could not put it down, the twist and turns in the story kept me unable to put it down. But when I did, as soon as possible I was reading it again. Great Series.
Can it get any better? Patricia McLinn and especially me hope to see a lot more of Wyoming. Very concise and crisp writing makes her books delightful.
